Last Saturday 7th March was the
premiere of Sue Townsend's The Secret Diary Of Adrian Mole at the Curve Theatre
Leicester. It has had raving reviews. Dominic Cavendish from the Telegraph said
"it's so good it could burrow its way into the West End".
The Musical is about a boy called
Adrian Mole aged 13 and 3/4. The play follows his teenage years and the mishaps
that occur for him. As the story goes on Adrian goes through many troubles such
as an annoying pimple on his chin, conflicts with parents and elders, and a
growing debt to bully Barry Kent. To make it even worse when a girl captures
his heart, she is stolen by his best friend Nigel. The actors are said to
really make the book come alive, Dominic Cavendish supports this by saying
"There's something about
having an ordinary boy valiantly coping with everything the show can throw at
him that gives the adaptation an added emotional kick all of its own." Also to keep the play local all the actors who
play Adrian are from Leicestershire.
