Last Saturday, in yet another effort to raise money for the
All-Steinway Appeal, the Loughborough Endowed Schools Music School hosted a
fundraising concert at Emmanuel Church featuring several alumni of the school,
winners of the solo keyboard competitions, and some of the Music School's
brightest talent.
The varied programme featured alumni Andrew (voice),
Gemma (violin), Corinne (flute) and Charlotte (jazz
saxophone), and included classical, jazz and musical theatre. The other performers
also got to perform on the magnificent Steinway Model D borrowed for the
occasion, which truly sang thanks in no small part to the splendid acoustic of
Emmanuel Church.
The All-Steinway Appeal is an effort to turn the LES Music
School into an All-Steinway School: only a few exist in the country. This must
begin with the purchase of a Steinway Concert Grand for the Recital Hall,
followed by uprights for the classrooms and individual tuition rooms, along
with a grand for the Grammar School.
This is an exciting prospect especially for a piano student
such as myself, and I am sure this will inspire students for years to come.
